ODYSSEY (Ep)

Released on February 2, 2024

Odyssey, released on February 2, 2024, is Voidchaser’s debut EP and a bold statement of intent, laying the groundwork for their evolving sound. While considered a demo, Odyssey reveals an ambitious exploration of progressive metal’s potential, blending intricate storytelling with technical prowess. The 20-minute EP opens with X-167493, a cinematic prelude depicting a rebel spacecraft’s daring escape, setting the stage for the narrative. Tyrant, later remixed and remastered by Jason Poulin, tackles themes of autocracy and resistance with commanding vocals and intricate instrumentation. The nearly nine-minute epic Far Away delves into interstellar love and rebellion, weaving heavy riffs with soaring melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Closing the EP, Crusader delivers introspection and intensity, often drawing comparisons to Opeth for its dynamic range and lyrical depth, examining the cost of fighting for one’s beliefs. As an initial offering, Odyssey captures Voidchaser’s creative ambition and serves as a glimpse into the cinematic storytelling and musical complexity that would define their future works.
