First signs of rebellion - The Brach Trilogy I: The Great Escape (Odyssey)
On X-167493, a military grade space station orbiting around Terra Prime, tensions are at an all time high between the board of directors. General Caden Zeth Brach, commander of The Vanguard, one of the greatest and most prestigious fleets that Terra Corp owns, and General Seraphine Vale, Terra Corp’s “Shadow Strategist” that oversees the covert branch of X-167493, challenge the council after a genocide had been ordered on a civilian planet under the Terra Corp empire as means of a “Strategic Reset”. This would result in their incarceration, as they both refused to carry out the orders.
General Vale would devise an escape plan and relay it to General Brach using a combination of her expertise in subterfuge as well as some older military encryptions that only Brach and a select few people on X-167493 would know. The plan was to steal the “Phantom Veil”, a custom-class light corvette that was outfitted with an advanced hyperdrive system and stealth capabilities that only a select few people knew about as it was in a hidden hanger bay. This was Vale’s primary vessel she would use during covert operations. Everything was going almost perfectly but unfortunately for them, they were intercepted while making their way to the Starship, resulting in a flood of Terra Corp military operators converging on their location. They would fight their way through and reach ship, only to discover that the automatic doors of the hanger have been disabled. Vale instructs Brach to begin launch protocols on the ship while she manually opens the hanger doors. Once Terra Corp reinforcements begin to arrive, Vale spots some heavy artillery units that begin to lock onto the Phantom Veil. The doors now open, she knows that the only thing keeping everyone in that hanger bay not in a ship safe from the cold vacuum of space is the atmospheric seal. She looks Brach in the eyes, gives him one final salute and in a last heroic act, disables the atmospheric seal.
Everything in that hangar was then violently sucked into outer space killing everyone instantly. Everyone except Brach, who even though has seen many casualties of war in his day, breaks down at the sight of his longtime friend turned discreet beloved, who gave her life for him and their quest.
